Drumheller Girls Softball Association
The Drumheller Girls Softball Association (DGSA) is a community-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing girls and young women in Drumheller and the surrounding area with the opportunity to participate in organized softball. Through skill development, teamwork, and community involvement, DGSA plays an important role in youth athletics and community life within the Drumheller Valley.
DGSA is run entirely by volunteers, including parents, coaches, and board members who dedicate their time to ensuring local girls have access to a safe, inclusive, and positive sporting environment. The association follows provincial softball guidelines and supports structured player development aligned with Softball Alberta principles.
Girls’ softball has been part of the Drumheller area for many years, with teams competing locally and regionally well before the association was formally registered. Over time, interest and participation grew, leading to the establishment of a dedicated association to better organize teams, manage league play, and support player development.
The Drumheller Girls Softball Association was officially registered as a society in 2021, reflecting the growth and stability of the program. This formalization allowed DGSA to expand its programming, strengthen community partnerships, and provide consistent opportunities for athletes across multiple age groups.
Throughout its development, DGSA teams have competed against neighboring communities such as Delburne, Elnora, Lacombe, Red Deer, and other Central Alberta centres, giving local players valuable experience and exposure to competitive softball beyond Drumheller.
The Drumheller Girls Softball Association is more than a sports organization; it is an important part of the social fabric of the community. Each season, games and practices bring families, volunteers, and spectators together at local ball diamonds, creating a strong sense of community involvement and pride.
DGSA also benefits from and contributes to community support networks. Local businesses, service clubs, and other sports organizations often assist through sponsorships, donations, and shared resources. The association’s receipt of legacy support from other local sports organizations highlights its value and long-term impact within Drumheller.
